Welcome

I've collected many audio clips for you to enjoy. Please take a look through them. Click the pictures to get a bigger view of each map. To get a general idea of locations, please look at the Master Map to the left. Also, there is a GoogleMap, which is found here.

My sounds are in order of most fascinating to me, which also happens to be the reverse order of the way I collected them.

Feel free to ask a question or comment on anything that entertained you. Happy listening!

Milwaukee, WI, E Locust St & N Humboldt Blvd, Gordon Park, Swings

September 30, 2007

5 p.m.
Play

The playground was a busy place. A child was swinging so I decided to close mic her. One mic high and the other lower. Eventually, two more children joined in the fun. Try to figure out which way the forward and back swings are from the main swinger.

Milwaukee, WI, E Concordia Ave, Kern Park, Geese

September 30, 2007

3:30 p.m.
Play

The sound of geese flying towards me was a pleasant surprise as I rested along the Milwaukee River. I pointed both mics north, from where they were coming from. They quickly passed me and landed on some rocks about 40 feet from where I sat. This excerpt is from an 8 minute clip of these birds. I watched them for the next fifteen minutes, until it was time for them to head further down the river.

Milwaukee, WI, E Singer Cir, Kern Park, Cross Country and Chainsaw

September 30, 2007

3 p.m.

Play

The first sound you hear is the shuffling feet of a large cross country track team. They started in front of me, and then ran past my left side. As their sound lessens, someone across the Milwaukee River cranks up a chainsaw. This multiple element sound fits very well in my collection, because it feels quite two-toned.

Milwaukee, WI, E Capitol Dr & N Fratney St, Lena’s Food Market, FlagPole

September 30, 2007

2:30 p.m.

Play

I could hear a loud banging from far away, so I had to follow my ear. As I got closer to this flagpole, I realized the banging was coming from a cord hanging from it. This cord had some sort of metal weight, which would hit the flagpole each time the wind hit it right. I decided to put the left mic against the pole to capture the sound of being inside the pole, while the right was placed much lower to the ground to get a little delay from what the left mic captured.

Milwaukee, WI, E Capitol Dr & N Holton St, U-haul Station, Electronic Hum

September 30, 2007

2 p.m.

Play

The sound was created by a transformer outside of the U-haul building. One microphone was fully exposed lying on the ground. The other was placed inside a hollow brick. If you listen closely you can hear the sound of traffic over an airplane.
